Announcing the Arrival of Ramadan 1447H / 2026

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Grantor of Mercy. All praise is due to Allah, and may His peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.

The Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA) congratulates Muslims throughout the world, and specifically in the US, on the arrival of the blessed month of Ramadan and announces the following:

Wednesday, Feburary 18th, 2026 will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan. We ask Allah to make it a month filled with goodness, blessings and closeness to Him. We came to this decision after confirmation of the sighting of the crescent in many Muslim countries.

The Resident Fatwa Committee of AMJA has always adopted the opinion that if the moon is sighed from a trust worthy source(s) anywhere in the world that shared part of the night with the United States of America, and with the condition that the moon sighting is astronomically possible, then that marks the beginning of Ramadan. AMJA acknowledges other valid and legitimate opinions that disagree with the aforementioned decision and we encourage muslims to accept and respect other opinions.

The assembly, represented by the fatwa committee, makes this announcement to the Muslims of the United States, praying to Allah, the Majestic, the Most High, to accept the righteous actions of us all, just and we beseech Him to alleviate the suffering of the nation of Muhammad at large, and especially to support our oppressed brothers and sisters in Gaza, Sudan, and other afflicted Muslim regions. We also pray for the fulfillment of His promise to them by granting them rescue and victory.
