In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful
Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you.
Is it acceptable by Shari`ah for a Muslim man to marry from a Catholic Christian woman?
In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful
Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you.
Praise be to Allah, prayers and peace be upon His kind Messenger, family members, companions and followers.
The basis is permissibility, as Allah says: "(lawful) unto in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the people of the book, revealed before your time, when you give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues", (Quran, 5:5), but many Muslims disregard the restriction of chastity, i.e. that the woman from the people of the Book must be chaste and honorable, and does not commit any honor crime. However, and as of my own experience, being a resident in America for a long time, I do not recommend such marriages because the vast majority of these marriages do not succeed, especially if there are kids involved. The kid acquires much more from his mother than from his father, because he/she spends all the time with him/her. Allah says: "O ye who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who flinch not (from executing) the Commands they receive from God, but do (precisely) what they are commanded", (Quran, 66:6). Allah knows best.
