Question

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you.

I have an aunt who is 70 years old and she has a disability in hearing and talking (she can not talk well), but she likes very much reading the Holy Quraan. She is of course, illiterate, she has a sound mind and she does all her daily duties perfectly well. She prays her five daily prayers, fasts the month of Ramadan, and distinguishes between what prohibited and what is permissible. I recommended her to carry the Holy Quraan after each prayer and read in it by following with her finger every word and says (There is no god except Allah), from the beginning of the Chapter (Surah) up to its end. Is this permissible (Halaal) or prohibited (Haraam)? Please, kindly counsel us on this issue. Jazakumu Allahu Khairan.

Answer

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you.

Praise be to Allah, prayers and peace be upon His kind Messenger, family members, companions, and true followers until the Day of Judgment.

Carrying the Holy Quraan with looking into it and her wish that if she could read it well, as well as her saying: (There is no god except Allah), which is called planting of Paradise "Gheras Al-Jannah", all these are good deeds that she will be rewarded for, by Allah`s Will. We pray to Allah to accept her good deeds, because she comes closer to Allah by what she could within the limit of her capability, and Allah the Almighty does not assign anybody with any tasks or duties except with what he is capable to do. And you – by Allah`s Will – have done a great job in helping and supporting her doing such great good deeds, because those who denote and guide people to good deeds have the same reward as their doers by Allah the Almighty. Allah knows best.
