Question

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you.

Abdullah Ben `Abbaas, may Allah be content with him, has narrated that the prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, said: "Seven females are prohibited by kinship (by family relationships), and seven females are prohibited by affinity (by marriage relationships) from being married to men", (Reported by Al-Bukhari). We have already known the first seven prohibited ones, but the Shari`ah scholars only mentioned four of the other seven ones by affinity, who are: the wife`s mother; the daughter of the wife; the wife of the son; and the wife of the father. Therefore, who are the (3) rest of the seven prohibited ones by affinity that are mentioned in the afore-mentioned Hadith narrated by Ben Abbaas? JazalumuAllahu Khairan.

Answer

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you.

Praise be to Allah, prayers and peace be upon His kind Messenger, family members, companions, and true followers until the Day of Judgment.

The (3) rest of the prohibited females by affinity (temporarily) are:

1-     The sister of the wife from kinship or suckling, from two parents or from a father or from a mother.

2-     The aunt of the wife (her father`s sister) from a kinship or suckling, from two parents or from a father or from a mother.

3-     The aunt of the wife (her mother`s sister) from a kinship or suckling, from two parents or from a father or from a mother.

Allah knows best.
