Question
I would like a detailed response regarding the priority of giving dawa to non Muslims to convert them to Islam (while we know a lot of Muslims need help in understanding their own religion?) versus focusing on dawa to Muslims in the community and vice versa.
Answer
All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.
There is no need to forsake one for another, but the Muslims are your capital and the non-Muslims converting to Islam are your profit. Protecting your capital would take precedence over making profit, yet, most of the time both can be done simultaneously without conflict. The Prophet and the companions didn`t specify stages of their life for Muslim dawah and others for non-Muslim dawah. People have different talents, and some excel in one type of dawah over the other. Each one should use his talents to their greatest capacity.
Allah knows best.
