I have seen several methods one can use in performing ghusl janabah (a ritual bath following sexual relations or nocturnal emission) which are really making me confused. Please, I would like to know the proper way for a male and a female to perform ghusl janabah.
There are two levels of performing ghusl (major ablution) from janaabah (sexual impurity). If water reaches all the body, including the roots of the hair, including (according to some scholars), rinsing out the mouth and nose, then this is sufficient.
The second and preferred level is to begin by cleaning the privates, then performing wudoo' (minor ablution), washing the right side of the body, then the left, then washing the entire body, including the head and rinsing out the mouth and nose. Rubbing the body is not necessary. Braided hair does not need to be undone, as long as water reaches all of the roots.
Finally, I would like to remind my Muslim brothers and sisters to be moderate in their use of water.
