Many new Muslim males and females have some remains of pre-Islamic time`s traces such as tattoo; do they have to remove it? Some of them also wear rings, bracelets and earrings in different parts of the body; do they have to get rid of all that?
Tattoo is forbidden in shari`ah as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said "Allah cursed her who tattoos and her who gets tattooed" and thus tattoos should be removed by those who can do that without cause of corruption, evil, or harm. However, if that was difficult to do, it was then rendered one of the cases where pardoning and blame-lift are granted. As Allah does not impose upon any soul a duty but to the extent of its ability, in addition, embracing Islam, and repentance remove what (stains) was before them.
However, being adorned with gold ware is legally allowed for women provided that it is done according to reasonable usage and not like what unbeliever do. As for men, Allah prohibited getting adorned with gold ware to them, but permitted them to wear silver ring. What is sought beyond that is basically forbidden and prohibited unless there is a dire need or necessity for using it; such as the use dentures or nose made of gold when the other legally allowed alternative is not available. Allah the Almighty knows best.
