Question
What is the ruling on clothes that have been touched by urine? Is it required to change clothes? What is the ruling if it was urine of a breastfeeding child? What would it be if it were an adult’s urine?

Answer
All praise is for Allaah, and peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allaah, his family, companions, and those who are loyal to him. The urine of an adult is impure, and the clothes and the places that came in contact with it must be washed. As for the urine of a breastfeeding child who did not eat, then it suffices to place some water over it, according to the Shafi’ee and Hanbali (Madhab), in way of sprinkling water over the affected place. The urine of a young female who did not eat must be washed by pouring water over the places and clothes because of the hadeeth of the Prophet  that was reported by Al-Tirmidhi, “Sprinkle the urine of a boy and wash the urine of a girl”. That is the ruling, and if the place has been purified in the manner we have described, then there is no need to change clothes, but if the purification cannot be done without changing the clothes, then the clothes must changed. And Allaah, the Most High, knows best
