Question

Assalam Alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh. Thank you for this service you provide, and Jazakum Allah khairan. How does the Islamic prohibition on homosexuality impact our interactions with gay people in the US? For instance, should we shun them as friends? Should we refuse to do business with gay-owned companies? Also, does Islam proscribe how we should personally interact with homosexuals? My overall question, I guess, is how Muslims should handle living in a society where gays live openly and there`s a fair amount of gay rights advocacy. An additional question is if zina is on the same level of prohibition as homosexuality, and if so do the same guidelines apply to unmarried couples living together and other people you know to have committed zina?

Thank you and Jazakum Allah khairan.

Answer
If the homosexual people are Muslims, then shunning them is not recommended as long as you have an influence over them, and could convince them  refraining  from committing such a major sin.  It is not the case with the insistent whom you have tried a lot with them to stop, but they are still out of control, and with the non-Muslims amongst them, abandoning them is better for you.  The same rule applies for those who commit adultery and fornication.
