assalamu alaikum
I was wondering is it against islam to have pets like dogs?
All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.
Dogs can not be taken as pets in Islam. The Messenger (peace be upon him) said: "The angels will not enter a house that has a figure or a dog." You may have other pets, such as cats, birds or rabbits. You may have dogs for other reasons, such as farm, sheep, guard, hunt, or guide dogs. If you have a dog for one of those reasons, you don`t need to worry about it touching you or your clothes, but if it touched your dishes or utensils in general, you will need to wash that with water seven times, and use soil (or soap according to some scholars) in the first.
Allah knows best.
