Question
Is music haram? When? What types? Can we avoid it nowadays (100%)?
Answer
Yes, playing and listing to music is prohibited in Islam.
A Muslim must do his best to avoid it and there is a difference between hearing and listing to music. Hearing is unintentionally and it is not within one's capacity to stop it, so when you are out shopping or eating in a restaurant and so forth, it will happen, but a Muslim will not be held accountable for anything he cannot control. Listening, however, is intentional, so it is playing or listening attentively to music that is prohibited.
