Question

May the peace, mercy and blessing of Allah be upon you.

Seven years ago, I was living in Jiddah and my father and mother both came from Egypt for the Hajj, with the intention of performing Hajj at-Tamattu` (performing Hajj and `Umrah separately). They had entered the state of ihram (ritual purity) for `Umrah [while coming] from Egypt.

After finishing the rites of `Umrah, they exited the state of ihram in Jiddah and stayed with me for two days. Then, they entered into ihram again (from Jiddah as well) on the eighth day of (the month of) Dhul-Hijjah for the Hajj. My question is:

Is that permissible or should they have gone to the miqat (appointed place) for entering ihram for the Hajj since their original place of residence is Egypt?

If that was not permissible, is there any expiation for them to make?

Would the animal they sacrificed as a part of Hajj at-Tamattu` be enough for them?

Answer

In the name of Allah, all praise is for Allah, and may peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family. To proceed:

What your parents did was correct and they do not have to do anything else because Jiddah is closer to Mecca than the mawaqit (appointed places for assuming ihram when arriving from farther away) and whoever is in residence in a place closer to Mecca than the mawaqit, he should set out for the Hajj from his house and there is nothing wrong with that.
