Governmental health care programs, like Medicaid and Medicare are permissible for a Muslim to enroll in and take advantage of, because they are sponsored by the government and they do not fall under the category of commercial insurance. Regular health insurance does fall into this category; however, exemption is made for members of the Muslim community residing in the U.S. because of the exorbitant and unaffordable expense of medical treatment here.
