Title: Maidens and nymphs in Paradise

Question

Assalamu alaikum,

 

I have a question about the hour al-ayne, or chaste female creatures, in Jannah (Paradise) - like those mentioned in Surat ar-Rahman. Are they guaranteed for all men who enter Jannah? And also I know there are hadiths about the nymphs [sic] (or male creatures of Jannah) for the women. But I am confused about why the female creatures were mentioned in the Quran, but not the male creatures. Are there any authentic hadith that mention this? And also, if whoever is going to Jannah (whether male or female) receive this kind of reward - of having male or female creatures with whom to satisfy sexual desires - then where does your husband or wife fit in Jannah (assuming they are also in Jannah)?

 

Please help me with this issue; it has been turning around in my head for years now. May Allah bless you and grant you peace.

Answer

For the time being, in this worldly life, the most important thing for us is to work hard to guarantee the satisfaction of Allah (swt) and to be admitted to Paradise. Once a person has been admitted there, the last thing that should be worried about is how, where, when, and with whom he/she will enjoy everlasting life!

 

Many verses in the Quran clearly indicate that the inhabitants of Paradise – both male and female - will be ultimately satisfied. By default, this includes having husbands for women.

The fact that the Quran did not mention the existence of the men who will be the husbands of women there does not mean that there is nothing like this. The Quran was revealed in a society in which talking about the sexual pleasure of women was a shameful and embarrassing thing. This may be the reason nothing was mentioned in this regard.

 

However, the Prophet (saws) said (which means in English), "There are no single people in Paradise." So, for the women who die before getting married, for widows, for women whose husbands were not admitted to Paradise, and for divorcees; Allah (swt) will let them marry the men of Paradise.

 

As for those who die while married, or whose husbands die and they do not remarry, they will be the wives of their husbands in Paradise.
