Question
Assalamu Alaykum. Is it permitted to borrow a small amount of money in order to buy rice to give as Zakat of Fitr – on behalf of a family and then repay it after the Salah of Fatr? And May Allaah reward you with all that is good.
Answer
In the name of Allaah, the Benevolent, the Merciful. All praise is due to Allaah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allaah, his family, companions, and those loyal to him. There is no sin on you to borrow money for this purpose so long as you hope to be able to pay it back. And I hope that Allaah recompenses you for what you have borrowed and directs you to success. And whoever takes a loan from people while intending to pay it back then Allaah will assist him to pay it back and whoever takes a loan while intending not to return it, Allaah shall ruin him. And Allaah Most High knows best.
