Question
Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu,
Barak Allah laka. What is the ruling on getting rid of haram items in your possession such as music, instruments, etc., by selling them to non-Muslims? Is it haram to sell whatever it is haram to possess?
Answer
If your goal is to purify your business from any prohibited items, and your intention is to donate this money to the needy, then you may sell whatever is still in your possession. Otherwise, whatever is haram to possess is haram to sell. The Prophet (saws) said that which means, "Whatever Allah has made prohibited, trading in it is prohibited too."
