Title: Praying the Eid prayer on the Day of Arafat

Question

In Nigeria, some group prayed Salat ul-Eid al-Kabir and performed the udhiyah (animal sacrifice) on the day of Arafat. How Islamic is this act? What we know is that Eid ul-Adha is on the second day of Arafat. Please is there any hujjah (evidence) for or against this?

Answer

This act could be justified only if those people have their own local sighting of the moon and believe - according to their sighting - that the day of Arafah in Mecca should be the day of Al-Adha from their perspective because of the different sighting. However, this approach would be a weak one.
