Question

Assalam alaykum.

I have a question concerning Islam and I don’t know where else to write. I would be really grateful for any answer. I'm wondering why several ayat start with, "We," for example, "If We had sent unto thee a written (message)...." and "We know indeed the grief which their words do cause thee...." and many more. I am just wondering if there could be a message behind it.

Thank you in advance!

Answer

For an individual to use the plural form, “We,” in Arabic indicates superiority, majesty, and might. So, when Allah (swt) says “We,” it is to indicate that, considering that not all of the Ayat in the Quran do so. For example, when Allah (swt) called for Mousa (pbuh), He said that which means: {O Mousa, verily, it is Me, Allah, the Lord of the universe.} [Surat al-Qasas 28:30]
