Question

I just read the fatwa regarding E-numbers on food products. I am a little confused with regards to the enzymes. There are certain cheese snacks that are made with porcine enzymes which are derived from pigs. Is it still permissible to eat these snacks based on the fatwa referenced above? The example used was: "The Companions, after opening al-Mada'en, ate from the cheese of the Zoroastrians. It is made by the enzymes extracted from their animals which are not permissible for us, even if they slaughtered them."

Answer

In the process of making these cheeses, if though a process of chemical change, these enzymes are changed into a different form other than their original form, then it becomes permissible to eat from such cheese.
