Question

Al-salamu alaykum,

I never was in the habit of calling food and pharmaceutical companies to check whether their gelatin ingredients are derived from pork or not, but recently I heard that the multivitamins my family and I are using have pork gelatin, so I called the company to make sure. The question is: should I tell others about this so they avoid it too? A lot of them have no idea. What am I supposed to do?

Jazak Allah khayr.

Answer

Before doing anything, you need to verify how complete the chemical transformation of the pork product was when processing the food, because if it was complete, then the final product does not contain any pork.

It is well known in Islamic Law that the complete transformation changes the characteristics of the ingredients, and consequently, the ruling on consuming them.
