Peace be upon you. Is the guitar prohibited or permissible?

In the Name of Allah The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful

Praise be to Allah; Prayers and Peace of Allah be upon the Messenger, his household and his companions.

The guitar, as any other stringed musical instrument, should be avoided by religious people. There are religious texts that prohibit stringed musical instruments and threaten those who play them. However, the scholars disagree about its interpretation. The mildest opinion is that this is a suspicious matter. A sane person saves his religion and his honor. Whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things, falls into the prohibited.
