Title: | When and how to pay Zakat? |
Category: | Poor-due or obligatory charity (Zakaah) |

In the Name of Allah The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful.
I am a trader of real property and used cars. I work all year round. Lately, I sold a land which I inherited from my mother. I want to pay its Zakat. It is to be noted that the due time for paying the Zakat of my money is approaching, whereas a year has not yet passed to pay the Zakat due on the sold land.
When should I pay the Zakat of the sold land? Should I pay it at the due time of the Zakat, or when a year passes? Worth mentioning is that I use this money in my trade as a part of my capital.
Also, is it possible to pay Zakat several times a year on each sum of money when a year passes on it? Or should I pay Zakat on all my money once a year?
In the Name of Allah The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful
Praise be to Allah; Prayers and Peace of Allah be upon the Messenger, his household and his companions.
The Zakat of merchandise becomes due when a year passes since the date you have owned the basic minimum. It is not obligatory that a year should pass on every deal you make because the due time for paying the Zakat of the money gained from trade throughout the year is when a year passes on its origin if it reaches the basic minimum. As for the money gained via other ways, such as inheritance, you are free to pay its Zakat separately, or to add it to the rest of your money with respect to the basic minimum and due time. And Allah knows best.
