What is the legal opinion concerning chatting of boys and girls on the internet?
Praise be to Allah; Prayers and Peace of Allah be upon the Messenger.
The Messenger (PBUH) says, " I have not left after me any (chance) of turmoil more injurious to men than the harm done to the men because of women." [Muslim] The hadith urges everyone who is keen on his religion to avoid spots of immorality and to resort to forts of piety. Wisdom necessitates keeping the tempted away from the source of temptation. Those two who communicate via chatting are at risk of falling into immorality and enticement or they might exhaust themselves with what they could not attain in full and would not be sufficed by only a part of it. They are swinging between a state of sinning and a state of distress and spending their time in what harms them in this life and the hereafter. The Sharia closed the door in the face of the forbidden, especially in this area which is dangerous to both the individuals and the nations. Every honest person is aware of the immorality and the evil that these chats bring instantly and on the long run. If you ask this young man, "Do you approve of this to your sister?" he will say, "No!" This is if his moral constitution is not totally set back. My speech applies to private chats between male and female youths and not to girls participating in seminars via the internet attended by righteous males and females.
O Allah, guide the Muslim youth and adults. And Allah knows best.
