Question
Assalamu Alaykum. I would like to ask about a dead person's facial expressions as they are dying. My grandmother died the day before yesterday after Dhuhr prayer. Before her death, she had prayed Fajr and made wudoo' (ablution) for Dhuhr prayer but she didn't pray it. She was suffering from clogged arteries in the heart and had a heart attack from she died. She remained repeating the Shahada (i.e. Laa ilaaha illa Allaah, Muhammadun Rasool Allaah) before her death for an hour, then she died. Before her washing, I kissed her on her forehead and saw that there was blue and redness on her face, and her facial expressions was as if she was upset with something. What does this mean? Awaiting your response, Jazaak Allaahu Khayran.
Answer
In the name of Allaah, the Benevolent, the Merciful. All praise is due to Allaah, and peace and blessings be upon the messenger of Allaah, upon his family, companions, and those loyal to him. Her death upon purity, and her having offering the morning prayer and prepared for Dhuhr prayer, then death overtaking her - all this is a sign of a good end insha Allaah. As for what you saw in her face, perhaps that is from the effects of the attack that occurred to her before her death. Do not think of this or be depressed by it, and increase your du'aa (supplication) for her and charity on her behalf. Verily, in the supplication of the living and their charity is benefit for the dead. And Allaah, the Most High, knows best.
