Should a democratic election among the community be conducted to determine the Masjid/Islamic Center administration? There are Muslims in our community who are pursuing a law suit against the not for profit corporation (Muslims)that is the permanent administration. There are no elections and the board of directors of the not for profit corporation appoints the administration.
AAWW
Serving the Masajid and running their daily affairs is a noble mission in which no one should be deprived from it. But there is no specific way to do so, meaning that Islam did not regulate the mechanism and the way people be in charge of the Masajid. If appointing permanent administration would serve the Masjid the most, then it is acceptable Islamically. If holding election is better to inject new blood in the community and to share the responsibility by the qualified and capable people, then it is acceptable too. But what is unacceptable is to make this issue a reason for arguing and fighting between Muslims. Worse than that is to lawsuit the Masjid and exhaust our financial resources to retaliate and take revenge from one another!
In your case, I would suggest referring the case to an Islamic arbitration committee to investigate and judge accordingly.
