Assalamualaikum, I would like to receive a clear definition of a Katbul Kitaab.Currently I am a student and do not have the means to provide for my fiance. I would like to learn of the conditions applied if my fiance and I decided to get married but did not consummate the marriage. Is her father still her wali? Am I allowed to see her alone? Anything else I should know? JazakAllahu Khairan.
AAWW,
Katbul Kitab means conducting the Islamic marriage contract. Once you do so, your fiancée becomes your wife, but you are required not to consummate the marriage by having conjugal relation with her before the wedding ceremony, so as to comply with the tradition that Islam does not reject. Anything else other than having sexual relation with her is allowed too. However, you still need to observe the traditions of your culture.
