Does the husband require the permission of the first wife to marry a second wife. Additionally can she anull the marriage if he marries again?

If the inquirer is living in the US, he needs to know that multi-marriage or polygamy is a federal offence and against the American law. He is expected to comply with the law of the land.

From an Islamic perspective, the permission of the wife is not required for the second marriage. From her end, if the first wife is not satisfied with the new situation and does not like her husband to have another wife, she can legitimately ask for divorce, but she cannot annul or terminate the marriage by herself.
