Question

Salamun Aleikum In shaa Allah, I am going to get married soon in shaa Allah. Now me and my wife are debating about the setup of the marriage ceremony. One side wants complete segregation between men and women during the event (which is just a very simple dinner with NO music or dancing, or those strange things that unfortunately some Muslims do these days). The other side thinks there is no problem of having a mixed event since it is just a dinner and the attendees will be only family members from both sides and highly likely families will be sitting on tables like any restaurant. So, the question is, is it OK to have a mixed gathering on the dinner, or it is strictly not acceptable to have the mix? Jazakum Allah kiran.

Answer

Alhamdu Lillah

The setting of the wedding ceremony is not like the one in any restaurant. Restaurants are public places in which anyone does not need a permission to enter and eat. While the wedding ceremony is a very private event for the invitees only.

So, because of the privacy, men and women have to be completely segregated, especially when remembering that some women in weddings free themselves from their full-Hijab.

Allah SWT said, what means (..and when you want to communicate with them, do so from behind a curtain, that is for more purity for your and their hearts).
