salam, we are going for IVF due to my wife medical issues and according to doctor there is now way that she will be prganant without. is IVF is costly here in US, can we select baby gender? Thanks.

 The human embryo is the origin of the human being, and must be treated with care and respect. This means that it is not permissible for the physicians in charge of the IVF to fertilize a larger number of ova to choose from. However, due to the nature of the procedure, there may be, at times, excess embryos. If it will not be safe for the mother or potential fetuses to implant all of the fertilized ova, then it may be necessary to sacrifice some of them. Only then you may be able to choose the sex of the fetus. When science allows for choosing the sex before the fertilization of the ova, then it may be permissible then to choose the sex as well.
