Do I need to pay Zakat on the amount that was set aside from my salary and contribution made by employer to the pension fund; which was invested by the employer in stock market through a management agency? Do I pay zakat on monthly pension payment received, or the amount invested in stock market, or both? Thank you.
Alhamdu Lillah
Any pension plan, whether through employers or individual ones are subject to Zakah. Zakah on pension plans should be paid annually in the Zakah due date, along with other money from different resources.
The Zakatable money on pension plan is the net amount or value of the account after deducting all due deductions, like taxes(if applicable), service fees, and the like. The employee or the employer's monthly contribution to this account are not calculated.
