Question

ASA I have a question regarding the money factor involved in leasing cars. I had attended Dr Main Khalid Al-Qudah lecture at the Houston Dawa Center a year ago however this question wasn't not asked. Please let me know since I am interested in leasing a car but if it's haram then I can think of other options. JZK

Answer

Alhamdu Lillah

Two contracts in Islam are subject to Riba (interest) : Loan & Sale contract. Lease contract is basically not subject to Riba. So, going with (lease to purchase) or (lease to own) option is allowed.

The above permissibility is not negated with the condition of paying late fees in case of delaying one’s payment. Although this condition is not allowed, but meanwhile, it could be easily avoided when being punctual and paying on time.

Having such a void condition in any Halal contract would make the condition invalid (if you could avoid it legally) but the whole contract is allowable.
