As-Salamu Alaykum I live in the UK. Car insurance here is a mandatory requirement. Driving without car insurance can result in penalties such as fines and time in prison. Can I take out basic car insurance if I am forced by the laws of the land to do so.Public transport such as taxis and buses is available but this form of transport can be an inconvenience especially if you have a family? All praise be to Allah. The scholars who live in the West seem to be in agreement that the minimum required by law of car insurance is permissible due to the harm and hardship that results from not getting it. And Allah alone knows best.
