Assalamu Alaykum. I feel like I'm in a tough spot. An IT company contacted me about entry level IT positions. I was skeptical at first but everything checked out in the beginning so I accepted and went out of state for training (company paid for everything). I learned however that what this company does is lie about their candidates' experience to their clients so that they can charge a higher fee (and our salary is therefore also higher). I was basically told to lie to the client even during the interview and I did (now the guilt is eating me). Although I did not initiate the lie I went along with it which I guess makes me an accomplice. I don't know what to do. Is my income haraam (I wanted to donate)? I'd like to give more details. JAK.
All praise be to Allah, and may His blessings and prayers be on His last messenger, Muhammad,
The income would be halal if you performed the required job. Your lying is haram, and you must refrain from carrying on with it. Donating from the money you earned is a good means for its purification if it is tainted with haram.
Allah knows best.
