Question

Assalamu alaikum,

I have many DVD's with movies on them. They are worth about 200 USD. Is it better to throw them away, or give them to someone else to watch them?

My point is: throwing them away would be a waste of money, and giving them to someone to watch them (and [as a result] he watches films all the time) could be helping him to do something that is haram (or is it not?)

Jazakum Allahu khairan.

Answer

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Grantor of Mercy

All praise belongs to Allah, and may prayers and peace be upon Allah’s final Messenger.

If these are beneficial documentaries, such as what is produced by the History or Discovery channels, you may give them to someone else. If they are not, then throwing them away is the right course of action. If they are haram to watch, they are not of any value, and throwing them away will be like pouring wine/alcohol [down the drain]or throwing away the meat of an animal that was not slaughtered Islamically.

Allah knows best.
