Title: | Du'a to protect from embarrassment, suicidal thoughts |
Category: | Heart Softeners |
Scholar: | Dr. Hatem al-Haj |
Date: | 10/21/2012 |
Assalamo alikum,
I am a 22-year-old male, have been living a miserable life. The shape of my face and head is the reason of all my sufferings. When I was a child I used to get noticed because of my look, but it was endurable because people would care to show a little kindness to a kid. Since I am grown up, nobody cares to do that anymore. I get bullied and ridiculed on a daily basis. I understand what makes them behave that way.
In my early teen days I would think to commit suicide as I can't solve this problem. I am not the creator of myself. I know I live in a lousy, rude and selfish world where nobody cares whether I live or die. I do funny things to avoid crowds. Is there any du'a that helps me to get away from this embarrassment?
Thank you for your time.
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Grantor of Mercy
All praise be to Allah and may His blessings and peace be on His final messenger, Muhammad,
The following supplication is for facilitation of all of one’s difficult affairs:
" اللهم لا سهل إلا ما جعلته سهلاً وأنت تجعل الحزن إذا شئت سهلاً "
"O Allah nothing is easy unless you make it so, and it is you who turns hardships into ease." [Reported by Ibn Hibban from Anas.]
Also, the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) said:
“Allah will relieve any slave who is afflicted with grief and anxiety from his anxiety and replace his grief with happiness if he says:
"اللهم إني عبدك وابن عبدك وابن أمتك ناصيتي بيدك ماض فيّ حكمك عدل فيّ قضاؤك أسألك بكل اسم هو لك سمّيت به نفسك أو أنزلته في كتابك أو علّمته أحدا من خلقك أو استأثرت به علم الغيب عندك أن تجعل القرآن ربيع قلبي ونور صدري وجلاء حزني وذهاب همّي"
'O Allah! I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’aan the life of my heart and the light of my chest, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety. O Allah! Teach me from it that which I am ignorant of and remind me with it that which I was made to forget; I ask You by Your mercy, for You are the Most Merciful, to grant me its recitation during the hours of night and day in the form which pleases You'” . The people asked: "O Prophet of Allah! Should we learn (i.e., memorize) these words’. He sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “Yes! Everyone who hears this should memorise it”. [Reported by Ahmad from Ibn Mas’ood]
Finally, I would like to remind you of the Prophet’s statement when he saw a man dragging his garment because he was ashamed of his deformed legs, he (blessings and peace be upon him) said,
"ارفع إزارك فإن كل خلق الله حسن."
“Raise your garment for all of the creation of Allah is beautiful.” [Reported by Ahmad from ash-Shareed ibn Suwayd ath-Thaqafiy]
The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) also said,
"إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى صُوَرِكُمْ وَأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَأَعْمَالِكُمْ"
“Allah does not look at (care about) your forms or wealth, but he looks at your hearts and your deeds.” [Reported by Muslim from Abi Hurairah].
You are not about the shape of your head and face. You are about the state of your heart and mind. The form is secondary. Many people are mature enough to recognize that. Seek them out and avoid those who are insensitive and imprudent.
Allah knows best.
